Recently, Dubai-based Darley Group has announced that a brand-new scholarship program named Dubai Equine Science Scholarships (DESS) is launched. Qingdao Agricultural University(QAU) has become one of the first seven universities to set up DESS within the country.

DESS is awarded to the excellent students from these seven universities who are interested in furthering their equine studies. The scholarship will be granted to 24 recipients selected annually with each being awarded RMB 15,000 to cover their tuition and living fees from the year of 2015. In addition, seven of the 24 Dubai Equine Science Scholarship recipients (one from each university) will have the chance to win a trip to one of Darley’s world-famous thoroughbred stud farms and personally experience the thoroughbred breeding industry. This will possibly lay a firm foundation for the graduates to apply for Darley’s Dubai International Thoroughbred Internships (DITI) program in the future.

In accordance with the specific application requirements, DESS will be awarded to the undergraduates entering their final year of study or post-graduate students. Apart from the above mentioned, the applicants are required to have completed a placement with an equestrian club or stud-farm for at least 20 days and file the application form in the year before graduation. The application deadline in 2015 is Oct. 20th, 2015.

The equestrian science major was set up in 2010 in QAU. It covers respects such as the feeding and management of horses, reproduction and breeding, epidemic disease prevention and control, horse training, equestrian basics as well as events and management. Graduates are mainly intended to provide services for equestrian sports and become urgently needed talents in horse-relevant industries.
