On September 3, Qingdao Agricultural University(QAU) held a grand opening ceremony for 2018 freshmen in Hongzi Square, welcoming 8,000 new students of 21 minorities from 21 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. Li Baodu, Song Xiyun, Wang Qingjun, Yuan Yongbing, Zhu Lianqin, Liu Mingxi, Yan Shaoyan and Liu Chunxia, leaders of QAU, attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Yuan Yongbing, the Vice President.

And Song Xiyun delivered a speech. On behalf of students, teachers and administrative staff of the whole school, he expressed warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to the arrival of the new students, and expressed cordial greetings and sincere gratitude to the parents and friends who worked hard to cultivate the students. As a teacher, Song Xiyun hoped that the new students to meet better themselves in the struggling journey of Qingdao Agricultural University and strive to become the builder and successor of the socialist cause.

At the opening ceremony, a solemn flag raising ceremony was held. Nie Pin, dean of the college of Marine and Science Engineering, teacher representatives, national candidate of National Hundred Million Talent Project in the new century, winner of National Science Foundation for Outstanding Young Peoplen, and candidates for the National Talent Project of the New Century; Cheng Yixuan, league member from College of Humanities and Social Science, representitive of senior students, the firse prize winner of deeply reform plan of the Central Committee, excellent student leader of Shandong Province; and representive of freshmen, Ma Ji, from College of Food Science and Engineering, expressed wish and bless fo the 2018 freshmen.
