On April 13th, Shandong Agricultural Society organized the evaluation committee of the seven-person evaluation team of Professor Zhou Xueping, the director of the Institute of Plant Protection of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Cao Keqiang from Hebei Agricultural University and Professor Wang Guoping from Huazhong Agricultural University. The research results of the “Development and Application of Precision Prevention and Control Technology for Apple and Pear Major Leaf Diseases” by Professor Li Baohua of the College of Plant Medicine were evaluated. The evaluation conference was presided over by Zhang Xijun, executive deputy secretary-general of the Shandong Agricultural Society. Liu Tongxian, dean of the School of Plant Medicine of Qingdao Agricultural University, and Professor Li Baohua and members of the research group, and relevant officials of the School Science and Technology Department attended the meeting.

The results of this project are aimed at restricting the major leaf diseases of apple and pear production. It has systematic researches on pathogen types, epidemiology, disaster-causing mechanisms and precision prevention for the problems of unknown pathogens, unclear epidemic and difficult control for 17 years. The evaluation committee listened carefully to the research report on the project results. After questions and discussions, it was agreed that the project was oriented to the actual problems of fruit tree production in China, and the research system was in-depth, filling the blank of epidemic and disaster-causing mechanisms of major leaf diseases in apples and pears at home and abroad. It has achieved significant economic, social and ecological benefits. The research results have reached the international leading level.

This achievement firstly discovered and named apple anthracnose leaf blight in China, and clarified its epidemic regularity and disaster-causing mechanism. The histopathological mechanism of P.infestans infection process was first elucidated. Five major leaves of apple and pear were developed. A prediction software based on automatic meteorological monitoring data to predict the infestation of P. aureus was developed  a real-time development based on “clearing the initial infestation source, disease epidemics and host growth and development” A comprehensive precision prevention and control technology system, which is based on clearing the initial infestation source, takes the disease epidemics and host growth period  as the main line, and believes the prevention and control of rainy seasons as the key, was developed. It is promoted and applied in the main apple and pear producing areas of the country, and the early defoliation rate is controlled below 5%, and the application rate of chemical agents is reduced by 25%-30 %. In Shandong Province alone, it has promoted 5.06 million mu in the past three years, with a direct economic benefit of 10.2 billion yuan. The achievements of the project include: editor-in-chief or editor of 5 monographs and textbooks; 65 published papers, including 13 papers in SCI; 3 granted patents; 5 main push technologies; 3 computer software registrations. Besides, 2 strains are preserved in the China Culture Collection; more than 2,000 technicians are in the medium layer; and more than 52,000 persons are trained.
