On the eve of May 1st, Professor Shang Shuqi of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Qingdao Agricultural University(QAU)  won the honorary title of “Advanced Worker of Shandong Province”.

Shang Shuqi is a professor with Doctor's degreee, and also a member of the Communist Party of China. He is currently dean of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of QAU, a doctoral supervisor, and an expert enjoying special allowances from the State Council. Besides, he is the chief expert of Huangdainian agricultural machinery teacher team, president of International Association for Mechanization Field Experiment (IAMFE), chairman of China branch, director of the key laboratory academy committee of agricultural machinery power and harvesting machinery, executive director of China Agricultural  Engineering Society, "Tianshan Scholar" of Xinjiang ". He has won many honorable title: the national May 1st Labor Medal, the national excellent science and technology worker, the Chinese chief communication scientist, the Meritorious figure of promoting agricultural machinery in the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and the advanced person of "science and tehnology promoting agriculture" in Shandong Province, distinguished teacher and  outstanding Communist Party members in Shandong Province.

First,being devoted to agricultural machinery research,  constantly making creative contributions.

For more than 30 years, he has been engaging himself in in-depth research on theoretical methods and technological innovations in root crop production equipment and seed breeding machinery equipment, and has achieved many breakthroughs in important innovations. He has won 2 second prizes of national scientific and technological progress (one is the first place), 2 first prizes in provincial and ministerial level (both are the first place), and 4 other provincial and ministerial awards. His achievements have been widely used in more than 20 provinces across the country, resulting in significant economic and social benefits, some of which have been well promoted and applied in developing countries. At present, he has published 191 academic papers, 8 academic monographs and textbooks, and won the first prize and the second prize of the provincial teaching achievements (both are the first one). He has obtained 2 international patents and 231 Chinese patents including 59 invention patents.

Second, combining research and practice,being committed to the promotion of agricultural machinery technology

Shang Shuqi always adheres to work stytle of "being willing to dedicate and work hard". With the spirit of persisting, struggling and researching, he has held and participated in the completion of more than 30 national, provincial and ministerial research projects. In recent years, he has become the chief expert of the national “Eleventh Five-Year” science and technology support program, the host of the national “Twelfth Five-Year” science and technology support program, and the host of the “948” project of the Ministry of Agriculture, etc, and he won the “ metritorious figure of promoting agricultural machinery in the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China”.  For more than 30 years, Shangshuqi has traveled to the field in the cold and heat, and sent the invented tools to the production line in person. He led the team to find out the problems in the application process, and gradually stepped out of a research and development road  integrating research and practice, combining application and promotion. The “4H-2 Peanut Harvester and Peanut Planter” he developed has been applied all over the country and greatly improved the labor productivity. The investment is low and the technology is easy to grasp, which has formed a mode of the combination of “production, study and research,promotion and application”. It promoted the development of the agricultural machinery, and produced enormous economic and social benefits.

Third, imparting knowledge assiduously, educating people unweariedly

From the day he graduated and stayed in school, Shang Shuqi devoted his best years  to the cause of education. Nowadays, many electromechanical students have become the backbones of the agricultural machinery sectors and enterprises all over the country. Talking about his students, Shang Shuqi looked proud. This is not only from the gratification of having students everywhere as an educator. It's more from that these students have made a lot of contributions to the development of agricultural mechanization technology, which also fulfilled his dream of promoting advanced agricultural machinery technology for many years.

After more than 30 years of teaching, after painstaking research and active exploration, he has edited and published 8 monographs and teaching materials such as "Agricultural Machinery Application Technology", and created his own unique teaching method of agricultural machinery. His lecture " Agricultural Mechinery course" became a high quality curriculum in Shandong Province. He uses heuristic teaching to guide students to actively work out problems, highlight key points, explain profound things in simple ways, and has strong logic He is knowledgeable, good at learning advanced teaching methods at home and abroad. He pays attention to the combination between theory and practice, integrates the frontiers of the discipline and the latest research results into teaching, forming a characteristic agricultural machinery teaching method that integrates scientific research into teaching, promotes scientific research by teaching, and uses practice to guide teaching. 

Shangshuqi lays more stress on the comprehensive development of students. While paying attention to professional education, he doesn't not relax education on students' personal life. In addition to encouraging students to establish lofty ideals and study hard in his classes, he also cares about the growth of students in life, and he often talks to them about their thought, study and life. In 2009, he first promoted the “college students research assistant” mode in college, encouraging young students to actively participate in the scientific research of agricultural machinery, greatly improving the students' practical ability, and cultivating the students' professional interests well. It became a model for the cultivation mode of talents in domestic agricultural institutions.

Shang Shuqi said, "In the classroom, seeing the eyes of my students makes me see the future of the agricultural machinery industry.“ It is my duty and my mission to guide my students  to understand, love and dedicate themselves to the agricultural machinery industry. ”
