On the morning of January 8, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council held the National Science and Technology Awards Conference in Beijing to reward scientific and technical personnel and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the progress of Chinese science and technology, the development of economic society, and modernization of national defense. Chinese party and state leaders Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, Zhang Gaoli and Wang Huning attended the conference and presented awards to the representatives of award winner. On behalf of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, Li Keqiang delivered a speech at the conference, and Zhang Gaoli presided over the conference. Qingdao Agricultural University as the first completion unit and professor Shang Shuqi, the dean of the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Qingdao Agricultural University, as the first completed person, the project of Key Technology and Equipment of Peanut Mechanized Sowing and Harvesting was completed under the direction of professor Shang Shuqi and  won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award. Professor Shang Shuqi participated in the awards conference as a team representative and accepted the award.

The project “Peanut Mechanized Sowing and Harvesting Key Technologies and Equipment” was mainly completed by Shang Shuqi, Yang Ranbing, Wang Dongwei, Li Ruichuan, Lian Zhengguo, Yin Yuanyuan, Wang Yanyao, Wang Qinghua, Hua Wei, Liu Junfeng. The main completed units are Qingdao Agricultural University, Shandong Wuzheng. Group Co. Ltd., Qingdao Wannongda Peanut Machinery Co. Ltd., Linshu County Dongtai Machinery Co. Ltd., Qingdao Hongsheng Auto Parts Co. Ltd., Henan Haofeng Machinery Manufacturing Co. Ltd.. The project aimed at the bottleneck of peanut seeding and harvest mechanization technology. According to the joint research of the participating units and the agronomic requirements of the main peanut producing areas in China, the harvest mechanical method of operation has invented based on the self-heavy seeding and the physical properties of peanuts and the cutting and breaking of the peanuts suitable for erect growth. The technical system of peanut single-double-grain combination and seedling precise seeding and excavation-pull-shake combined with picking and fruit harvesting was established, and the key technologies of peanut sowing and mechanized harvesting were created.  Adjusted to different planting requirements, 11 different types of peanut joint planters were developed, and 10 peanut harvesters and 8 peanut combine harvesters were created to adapte to different harvesting requirements and different soil characteristics.  And the solution  and its supporting method of mechanized production of peanuts in China was proposed. The first information inquiry system for peanut mechanized production in China was built; the agricultural light and simplified practical technology was formed and the ''Guidelines for the Technical Production of Peanut Mechanization'' was promoted by promulgating and implementing by the Ministry of Agriculture. The overall technology of the project has reached international advanced level and the core technology has reached the international leading level.

29 kinds of equipment developed by the project have been tested by national or provincial appraisal departments, 9 kinds of agricultural machinery products were listed in the catalogue supported by the state, and 11 were listed in the provincial catalogue. These equipment become the dominant models for national promotion and application. In the past three years, 101,805 machines have been sold, and the accumulated operating area was ​​90,669,300 mu. The machines generated 602 million yuan in sales, 10,835,300 yuan in profits, 10,233,300 yuan in taxes, and the operating applications saved 13.848 billion yuan. More than 15,000 agricultural technicians were trained, and 79 graduate students were trained.

The project broke through the key technical bottleneck of peanut mechanization, promoted the collaborative innovation of the peanut industrial chain, accelerated the process of industrialization and standardization of peanut machineries, and improved the comprehensive competitiveness of the agricultural machinery equipment industry and peanut industry. These made peanut industry's scientific and technological supporting capacity in China has been significantly enhanced, and made important contributions to the realization of full mechanization in peanuts and the increase of farmers' income. The research and development of the project was supported by  the “Eleventh Five-Year” and the “Twelfth Five-Year” National Science and Technology Support Plans, the Public Welfare Industry (Agriculture) Research Special Fund Project, the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Development Plan, the Shandong Agricultural Science and Technology Achievements Transformation Fund Project, and the Modern Agricultural Industrial Technology System Peanut Machinery Position Expert Project of Shandong province, Shandong Agricultural Machinery Equipment Innovation R&D Program Project and other programs.

In recent years, Qingdao Agricultural University has focused on the major industrial needs of the three rural areas closely, adhered to the scientific and technological development concept of “leading by basic research, expanding applied basic research, and strengthening the characteristics of applied research”, developed in facing regional economic society, and drove the transformation of old and new kinetic energy with original innovation. Scientific research has been done in the fields, and the papers have been written on the earth. The ability to support science and technology has been improved gradually, and major scientific and technological achievements have emerged constantly

It is reported that the 2017 National Science and Technology Awards was reviewed by the three levels--the disciplinary professional review team, the judging committee and the award committee. And the total number of trial awards was controlled. In the end, there were 2 national science and technology awards; 35 national natural science awards, 2 first prizes, 33 second prizes; 66 national technical invention awards, 4 first prizes and 62 second prizes; National Science 170 technical progress awards, 3 special prizes, 21 first prizes (including 3 innovative teams), 146 second prizes; 7 international science and technology cooperation awards of the People's Republic of China.
