QAU Wins Grand Prize in “Challenge Cup” National Final, an Exclusive Honor among Universities in Sh

On November 18th, the final of the 15th “Challenge Cup" of Bank of China National Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition came to an end at Shanghai University. The entry titled Peanut Combine Harvester for both Peanuts and Vines   from Qingdao Agricultural University(QAU) won Grand Prize. Only a total of 39 pieces of works throughout the country were awarded this prize. QAU is the only university in Shandong province which won Grand Prize in this  "Challenge Cup" National Final. A total of 5 pieces of works from QAU were short-listed for the national competition and all of them won awards including 1 item of Grand Prize, 2 items of Second Prize, 3 items of Third Prize, which achieved a new breakthrough in terms of award level, quantity and the involved disciplines.

The project  Peanut Combine Harvester for both Peanuts and Vines supervised by Wang Dongwei, Vice Dean of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, QAU, achieved a breakthrough for the Grand Prize in the national final of the "Challenge Cup"; The work titled Garlic Baling Harvester supervised by Professor Shang Shuqi, Dean of School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and the work of Eradication of "Psoriasis" in Farmland and Restoration of Land CleanlinessInvestigation and Study on the Recycling Disposal of Pesticide Package Wastes in Shandong Province supervised by Wang Haixia, Secretary of the  Youth League Committee of the School of chemistry and pharmacy,  won the Second Prize in the national final  and filled the gaps in the Second Prize of the "Challenge Cup" National Final for Qingdao Agricultural University. Study on the High Environmental Adaptability of Black Stachybotrys supervised by Zhang Xiaomei, a teacher with the School of Resources and Environment, won the Third Prize. It was the first time that natural science works entered the national final and won the National Award. Intelligent Precise Irrigation System Based on Soil- nondestructive sensing technology of Plant Water supervised by Yun Yuliang of School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, won the Third Prize in the National Final. The Vice Ministers of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League Li Ji, Song Lai, and the Provincial Party committee leaders visited the school exhibition site, giving full recognition to the school's participation work .

The Project of Peanut Combine Harvester for both Peanuts and Vines was carried out by 5 graduate students including Liu Xiaodong, Su Xin etc. It was supervised by the research team of the Wang Dongwei, Vice Dean of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. The project initiated a new field in the field of peanut harvest, and filled the gaps of peanut harvest methods in the machinery and equipment field. It integrates the function of peanut mining, clamping, transporting, vine-peanuts root separation, peanuts picking and vine packing. The work efficiency has been greatly improved, and it complied with the guidance and requirements of our country for the development of agriculture and agricultural machinery. It solved the problems that the utilization rate of peanut vine is insufficient and the waste is serious in the process of peanut harvest at present, and it has good prospect for application. After being awarded the first prize of the fourteenth "Challenge Cup" National College Students Extracurricular Academic Science And Technology Works Competition, and the 2015 College Student "Xiaoping Science And Technology Innovation Team" , the project team successfully won the "Challenge Cup" National Grand Prize.
