College of Life Sciences
- The College of Life Sciences at QAU was founded in 2002. It consists 14 teaching and research institutes: Genetic Study Institute, Biological Statistics Institute, Biochemical Institute, Botanic Institute, Zoological Institute, Microbiological Institute, Botanic Laboratory, Genetic Laboratory, Applied Epiphyte Laboratory, Biological Technology Research Institute, Medical Epiphyte Research Institute, Experimental Teaching Center for Biology, Central Laboratory, and Edible Fungi Factory of Shandong Province. The College of Life Science has 77 faculty members, 48 of which are full-time teaching faculty, 21 are lab assistants, and 8 are office associates. The teaching faculty includes 17 professors, 25 associate professors, 20 lecturers, and one National Outstanding Teacher. More than 1400 students have enrolled in the four academic programs currently offered in the College of Life Science: post-secondary program and undergraduate program in Biological Technology and Biological Science.
- The staff in our college now are undertaking 12 national-grade research issues and 12 provincial-grade issues, have published 800 academic papers , and gain more than 60 research awards from province or ministry . Among those issues , the one about "the research on Grifola Frondosa Polysaccharida and its medical research " has been identified to reach the international advanced standard by Wei Jiang-chun, the academician of the Chinese Academy of Science, and Guan Hua-shi , the academician of the Chinese Engineering Institute . The result of the issue was transferred for 9,000,000 yuan RMB to Jing-bo Group on 11th of April in 2002, and gained the first prize of Advance of Science and Technology from Shandong province in 2003. The school, attaching importance to the subject construction and teaching research, has got one item of the second prize and three items of the third prize of Provincial Teaching Achievement. The experimental teaching centre for biological general courses, co-built by the province and the ministry with the investment of10,000,000 yuan RMB from the university, has been put into use.
- The College of Life Sciences is committed to develop excellent social and academic environment and provide the best study and research atmosphere to its students and researchers. In 2002, 85% of students in Class One of Year 2000 passed the CET 4 examination, which ranked the class the first in the whole college. The students did excellent in 2004 postgraduate entrance examination, with 70.9% of all the school's students took the examination. In 2004, 68.4% of students of Year 2002 passed CET 4; the passing rate was the highest in the whole college. It helped to build the school's strong academic atmosphere. Since 2003, the College of Life Sciences has carried out "Professors As Instructors" system. 139 graduates of 2004 were among the first beneficiaries: 124 applied for postgraduate schools, and 66 were admitted.
