College of Foreign Languages

The former Foreign Languages Staff Room in Fundamental Teaching Department was renamed Foreign Languages Department in December 1999. The department now consists of English major, Japanese major, Korean majors and Business English major. The qualified graduates are popular with the employers.
The Foreign Languages Department attaches great importance to the teaching conditions. There are 14 multi-medium language labs and network lab with 920 seats. The majored English lessons are given in multi-medium language labs equipped with Sony and Panasonic devices .A foreign languages broadcasting station and a high-quality recording room have also been built. Now the language labs rank among the first-level labs in Shandong Higher Schools.
As to the public foreign languages teaching, the department takes up the English, Japanese, Korean, Russian and French teaching for the undergraduates and associate students. FLD sticks to the importance of quality and practical capacity of the students. In the past decade, the percentage of passing CET in first exam has always been leading the agricultural colleges all over China and exceeding the national key colleges by 8% to 12% for continuous years.
As to the major English teaching, stress was put on the fundamental and multi-disciplinary teaching. The department is devoted to training high-quality foreign languages talents good at language communicating and information processing, with the training model of "foreign languages+ trade" as her feature.
Active in scientific research, teachers in Foreign Languages Department have taken up 4 national or provincial scientific research projects, 21 projects at school level in addition to 12 teaching research projects. In recent years, 168 academic essays, and 16 monographs, teaching material or reference books have been published; the third prize of Shandong provincial excellent teaching award, the first prize of school excellent teaching award have been attained. In the meantime, two third-prizes of social science excellency in Yantai city have also been awarded.
