College of Fisheries

The College of Fisheries at QAU was historically a major named "Aquiculture" belonged to Animal Sciences Department. In 1994, associated with the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the training course called "Fishery culture" set up in QAU, with the admission of Chinese Education Ministry, the undergraduate major named "Marine culture", which was founded in 1996, and in 1999, it changed into "Aquiculture". For years of growth in teaching staff, development in basic facilities and scientific research, Hydrobiology and Engineering Department was formed in Octobor, 2002.
The College of Fisheries is one of the fastest developing colleges at QAU since it has fine faculty resources. It presently has a troop with 29 high level scholars ( 9 professors and 15 associate professors), and among whom, there are 2 doctoral advisors and 4 master's advisors, 13 doctors and 12 masters. In order to improve the teaching qualities and intensify the academic study, it retains 18 professors as our part-time teachers from Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ocean University of China, and Institute of Marine-culture of Shandong Province. Now it has two undergraduate major which named "Aquiculture" and "Ecology", and altogether 338 students are at school. With the development of the department, MAS and Doctor's Degree will be entitled soon. Up to 2010, the number of the students will have reached 1600 including doctors and postgraduates.
The College of Fisheries has fine teaching and research facilities. It is restructured into hydrobiological bases lab, hydrobiological breeding lab, hydro-biological nutrition lab, hydrobiological disease lab, environmental culture lab, quality analysis lab, hydrobiological specimen room (with thousands of specimen). The department has advanced facilities and equipments worthy of 1000,000, now. Meanwhile it also owns over ten teaching and research bases, such as Shengli Oilfield, Jinying Companies of Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, QingDao ChangSheng Zhongke Marine Feed Co., Ltd, Rushan Breeding factory, etc.
