College of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine

The College of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine at QAU was first founded in 1958, which was originally named Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine. It changed its name into Department of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine in 1994. Since October 15, 2002, it has been restructured into College of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine. Now there are eight majors that are entitled to confer Master degree. All of them cover all the subject fields of the college.
The College now has 1700 full-time students and among them, there are 1200 undergraduates, 320 vocational students and 180 postgraduate students. The college has 79 staff members, of whom, there are 16 professors, 23 associate professors, 8 advanced assistants working in the laboratory. In addition, there are 8 provincial middle-aged and young leading figures in their disciplines, 3 doctor supervisors, 23 of the staff with doctor degree and 21 with master degree.
The College has good experimenting facilities, with six teaching research institutes, five teaching experimenting labs, an Animal New Medicine Research Center and a Waterfowl Research Institute. It has two Provincial Key Disciplines. One is Preventive Veterinary Medicine and the other is Animal Genetic and Breeding. There is one college key discipline in science of animal nutrition and forage, and one animal science bases experimental laboratory, and one provincial key laboratory. In the year of 2000, with the investment of 300 million RMB, the college set up "QAU Animal Embryo Engineering Center" which had the first-rank research facilities and research team. In the year of 2001, the birth of KANG-KANG and SHUANG-SHUANG, which were the first and second healthily alive cell-cloned cow, and this symbolized that the research ability of our college had set foot on a new step.
The College has hosted and taken part in more than 190 research programs in recent ten years, of which there are eight national research projects, five national nature science funds projects, 110 provincial projects, 40 projects of general office and optional projects. Moreover, a lot of those programs have obtained achievement awards. The great achievements have widely affirmed. The General Branch of the College of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine has been awarded as "Advanced Basic Party Organization of the Universities in Shandong Province", "Advanced Basic Party Organization in Shandong Province" and "Advanced Basic Party Organization".
